3Landslide of Fukui Cave

In summer, water runs down like a waterfall by the side of the West rock shelter at Fukui Cave. A closer look reveals that the bedrock of the shelter is lower than the bedrock around it. This is probably the vestige of a landslide which occurred 17,700 years ago (red line). A great volume of rocks, earth and sand flowed into Fukui Cave from the top as a result of the landslide. Paleolithic people, the inhabitants of the cave must have rushed out in panic.
